Family Law in Malaysia by Kamala M. G. Pillai

Kamala Pillai’s new book Family Law in Malaysia provides a comprehensive overview of family law issues with a detailed study of the key cases.  It includes coverage of the civil law aspects of family law applicable to non-Muslim citizens both in Peninsular and East Malaysia as well as an extensive discussion on domestic violence and the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

Many family law practitioners will find the chapter on the status of children of particular interest as it includes their citizenship rights as provided for under Article 14(1) of the Federal Constitution and parental child abduction,. References are made to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction and some human rights decisions from around the Commonwealth as they are becoming increasingly important in the practice of family law in Malaysia.

Non-Muslims may also be interested in learning about the impact of conversion to Islam. This has a significant consequence on marriage where a spouse converts without informing their spouse about it as laid out in the chapter “The Effect of Conversion and Apostasy on Family Law”.

2009 Customer Survey Result

Since 2007, LexisNexis Malaysia has conducted a bi-annual survey to obtain customer feedback regarding our products and services. These surveys have enabled LexisNexis to understand customer needs and to respond constructively.

The first round of the 2009 customer survey is now complete and initial findings indicate that our customers like the international content and usability of our online database but are keen to see the soon to be launched local platform. Our customers were keen to tell us they like the:
  •     “Wealth of databases and knowledge backed by great search engine.
  •     “More than satisfactory hits and easy search platforms”
  •     “Wide variety of news and journal sources, and also easy search techniques”

LexisNexis takes insights from this survey very seriously. We are focused on providing market leading products that make a meaningful difference in the way our customers do business.

We have developed a clear set of initiatives emerging directly from your valuable input. Your feedback allows us to have a better understanding of how best to enhance our products and we have already begun working on the next generation of offerings. We appreciate your continued support and thank you again for taking the time to participate in the survey.
